April Marks Subaru's Thirty-Third Consecutive Month of Sales Growth

Subaru, while significantly smaller than its major Japanese rivals Honda and Toyota, has proven to be a resilient automaker with a unique strategy. Few car manufacturers offer modern all-wheel drive across nearly their entire vehicle lineup—Subaru stands nearly alone in this regard. This, among other factors, explains why American consumers continue to gravitate toward the brand. The company’s sales growth in April is yet another sign of Subaru’s steady momentum in the competitive auto market.

Another Month of Sales Gains

How did Subaru perform in April? Dealerships delivered 56,011 new vehicles—a modest 0.3% increase compared to the same month last year. While small, growth is growth, and it’s worth recognizing. This marks Subaru’s thirty-third consecutive month of sales increases, highlighting its enduring popularity.

Subaru occupies a unique position in the automotive industry. It doesn’t quite operate like traditional mass-market brands such as Ford, Hyundai, or Volkswagen, but it continues to steadily expand its customer base.

The company’s year-to-date performance is even more impressive. In the first quarter of 2025, Subaru sold 222,968 new vehicles—up 6.8% from the same period in 2024.

Looking closer at April’s numbers, the Forester was Subaru’s best-selling model with 19,330 units sold. It was followed by the Crosstrek with 14,935 sales, then the Outback with 11,501. The three-row Ascent SUV accounted for 3,758 sales, while the Impreza rounded out the top five with 2,559 units. These numbers significantly outpaced other Subaru models like the Legacy sedan, Solterra EV, WRX performance sedan, and BRZ sports coupe.

“Another consecutive month of sales growth reflects the dedication of our retailers who continue to build trust and confidence through their actions, alongside the reliability and innovation of our vehicles,” said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales at Subaru of America. “From our beloved SUVs to our growing EV lineup, we are delivering vehicles that meet our customers’ evolving needs, while staying true to the values that set us apart.”

Jeff Walters, President and COO of Subaru of America, added: “With a record-breaking April for Crosstrek and our expanding model lineup, we remain committed to delivering on our customers’ expectations for safety, performance, and versatility.”

In a market crowded with alternatives, Subaru’s blend of practicality, safety, and individuality continues to give it an edge over competitors.
